An Early 20th Century “Side by Side” Secretary, crafted by Larkin in the North East. This piece has so much character and its quite the versatile piece – It would look stunning in an array of interior styles. The Secretary was refinished at some point in its life, although it was not done recently. In some areas the finish is thick, likely gone over with in later years. In natural direct lighting, it displays a drastic quartersawn oak grain. The top carved motif is unusual, it shows great lines and compliments the shape of the mirror nicely. The mirror is in good condition and is beveled on all sides. The glass front bookcase area does not lock, the door opens and closes as it should. The inside includes 3 height adjustable shelves. You’ll notice 2 cracks in the wood backing of the piece, this isn’t noticeable indoors, especially when filled with books. The secretary area shows a stunning carved motif, the same motif is found on similar early Larkin pieces. The inside includes a nice writing surface accompanied by a single drawer and pigeon hole storage. Below, you’ll enjoy additional storage in a single drawer and door below. Overall, this piece is in nice condition, you will find surface scratches, finish blemishes and minor chips from age. This is an overall sturdy and heavy piece.
