A Carved Chinese Commode Chair from the Late Qing Dynasty, crafted in Zhejiang Providence. This chair is carved of Ginkgo wood with Rosewood recessed panels and seat top. Each Rosewood panel shows a traditional floral inlay in bone. The seat top lifts up as it should to reveal the storage area. The inside of this piece would have had a large chamber pot for waste. One small storage drawer can be found on the bottom of the front. Wear is shown from age, although this chair stands exceptionally sturdy – It was very well made. This chair is unsigned or marked.
