A Victorian Quartersawn Oak Drop Front Secretary by Larkin, United States, c.1910. This Secretary would look exceptional while on display in an array of interior styles. The solid oak construction shows a drastic quartersawn grain throughout. The top of the desk includes display surface space with a large carved motif back rest. The drop front area is faced with a styled brass escutcheon (key included), and matching bottom straps, this area drops down and closes as it should. Within the Secretary area, you’ll enjoy a spread of different sized pigeon holes and an oak faced accessory drawer. Three large additional storage drawers are shown below the writing area, each drawer opens and closes smoothly and is embellished with aged brass Victorian pulls. This Secretary was professionally refinished at some point in its life, although it was not done recently.
Condition:
This Secretary was exceptionally well made, it stands solid and sturdy. While this piece was refinished, it shows mild wear which includes surface scratches, chips and blemishes. The drop front hinges and support hardware were replaced and are not original.
