A Victorian Oak Curved Glass China Cabinet w/ Carved Winged Griffin Motif, United States, c.1920. This Cabinet would look exceptional while on display in an array of interior styles. The solid oak construction shows a drastic grain throughout accompanied by a deep satin finish. The curved glass panels appear to be original and were not replaced. The large front door of the cabinet opens and closes as it should and is embellished with a brass escutcheon. While the door does have a lock, we do not have a key for this piece – It remains unlocked. To the left and right of the door, you’ll enjoy two large Griffins, carved to great detail. The inside of the cabinet includes 3 oak shelves, all of which would support a generous amount of weight. The cabinet stands on carved paw feet which adds special appeal. The backside of the piece is unsigned or marked.
Condition:
This Cabinet was exceptionally well made, it stands both solid and sturdy. There aren’t any cracks or chips shown in the glass panels. The hardware was replaced with modern brass matches. This Cabinet was professionally refinished at some point during the mid to late 20th Century. Mild surface scratches, finish blemishes and chips in the wood could be found from age.
