A Victorian Walnut Carved Northwind Face Savonarola Chair, United States, c. Early 20th Century. This Chair would look exceptional while displayed in an array of interior styles. The solid walnut shows a drastic grain throughout accompanied by a deep satin finish. The saddle designed seat of the chair is nicely styled, the seat bottom curves up into the arms which flows nicely into the backrest, it shows great lines. The backrest is heavily carved, displaying traditional Victorian foliage along with two Northwind (or Greenman) faces along each side of the chair – It’s a drastic look and makes for the perfect conversation piece. The curved legs adds extra appeal to the design and includes an additional carved face where the two legs meet. An upholstered seat cushion is included with the chair, it’s optional to use. While the cushion isn’t original, it’s true to its era. The underside of the chair is unmarked or signed.
