This Antique Empire Curio Cabinet could be used as a bookcase in your library or office, or as a china cabinet in a dining area. This piece has pure turn of the century charm and is marked Royal Furniture Grand Rapids on the inside door. Royal Furniture specialized in dining sets, library and bedroom furniture “for persons of wealth”. Their pieces were expensive because of the amount of details, marquetry and exotic imported veneers. The majority of their pieces show a more Colonial or Chippendale Revival style, although this cabinet is Empire style. This cabinet features 2 large double glass doors, and glass side panels. The left door glass has been replaced with a straighter glass, than the right door, which is only noticed when your looking at the bottom of the door glass frame. The inside of this piece includes 3 large wood shelves, all of which are removable. The back of the shelves were most likely mirrors at some point in the pieces life, not mahogany panels. The Flame Mahogany veneer is drastic, and almost glows in natural direct lighting. For the most part, the veneer is in really nice shape, with some mild chips in select areas. This piece is extremely heavy and sturdy, its very easy to appreciate this piece!
