An Arts & Crafts Quartersawn Oak Drop Front Secretary, United States, c.1920. This Secretary would look exceptional while on display in an array of interior styles. The solid oak shows a drastic quartersawn grain throughout, accompanied by an aged deep finish. The Slant Front shows a upper beveled motif, which is unique for its kind, this area also displays a brass lined escutcheon. An aged brass knob was added below this area, likely because there isn’t a key included. The secretary area opens and closes as it should, although it’s not stable enough to lean on. Newer style hinges have been added to the writing surface, and only one arm support is shown along the side. Because of this, its considered to be more of a decorative piece verses a sit down and work secretary. The includes a series of different sized pigeon holes with an additional storage drawer found below the drop front area. The solid oak legs adds a seamless look, practically protruding through the secretary, this adds a unique Arts & Crafts look. The backside of the Secretary does have a manufactures paper label, although it is heavy warn and is illegible.
