A Farmhouse Oak Morris Rocking Chair with Pullout Ottoman, United States, c. Early 20th Century. This Chair would look exceptional while on display in an array of interior styles. The solid oak shows a drastic grain throughout, accompanied by a deep finish. This style of Morris Chair is always a pleasure to be seated within, not only is the chair fully functional, it’s also very comfortable and has great support. The chair smoothly rocks upon the fixed base. The backrest reclines to 5 different pitches with brackets shown on each side of the chair. The pull out ottoman is on its own track beneath the chair and pulls out – and stores away as it should. This Chair is unsigned or marked.
Condition:
This Chair is exceptionally well made, it’s both solid and sturdy. This chair was professionally refinished at some point in its life. Judging by the brackets and hinges upon back, we believe this piece was made into a reclining Morris Chair later in its life – It was likely a rocker alone. The upholstery isn’t original, but suits the piece well, there aren’t any holes or tears although a lose seam is shown on the back corner. This area is circled in our photo gallery to reference.
