A Federal Mahogany Tambour Door Inlaid Writing Desk, United States, c. Early 20th Century. This Writing Desk looks absolutely exceptional while on display in an array of interior styles. This piece was professionally refinished as some point in its life, keeping its original charm. The solid mahogany construction makes this piece exceptionally sturdy and solid, it was very well made. The top area of the Writing Desk features two tambour doors, both open and close smoothly. Inside this area, you’ll enjoy small pigeon holes and letter holders. Between the tambour doors is a locking door with additional storage within. This door shows a stunning French Urn inlay and includes the original key. The writing surface is hinged and drops down to double in size, this area rests on pull out arms which supports the surface nicely. Double drawers below offers additional storage space. These drawers open and close as they should and include brass pulls. Throughout, you’ll enjoy a drastic mahogany grain accompanied by marquetry inlaid motifs.
Condition:
This piece is in very nice condition, it was nicely refinished at some point in its life. Mild surface scratches and minor chips can be seen from age. The drawer pulls and knobs are from the mid 20th century, although the look is true to its era.
