A Victorian Carved Savonarola Saddle Chair, United States, c.1940. This Chair is crafted of solid wood with a lacquered finish. The chair is made up of a series of bentwood slats which forms an unusual saddle-like design. The large arm rests shows a great motif on all sides. The backrest displays a heavily carved foliage motif. The chair is unsigned or marked.
Condition:
This chair is very well made, it would make a great daily seat, its solid. The finish shows wear throughout as well as surface scratches and minor chips. A primitive repair was made on the bottom of 1 slat, it appears it was mended with rope and sealed – This repair does not move or wiggle – Very solid.
