A Victorian Quartersawn Oak Bookcase Server by Larkin, United States, c.1910. This piece would look exceptional while on display in an array of interior styles. The solid oak construction shows a drastic quartersawn grain throughout. The overall design would make a great sideboard server, liquor (or coffee) bar, or bookcase. The piece shows two glass front storage doors which show a matching carved wood motif upon front. One door leads you to 3 removal oak shelves and a single shelf area on the smaller side. The chest of the piece shows two smaller stacked drawers for valuables along with a large storage door below. The door is faced with an stunning carved motif in a recessed panel. The extra wide bottom drawer offers additional storage and includes aged brass pulls. The top surface of this piece is accompanied by a beveled glass mirror, it appears to be original. The carved lion’s paw feet are special and accent the piece nicely. The backside of the piece shows the original paper Larkin label, although its heavily washed out, you’re not able to read it.
Condition:
This piece was exceptionally well made, it stands solid and sturdy. It was professionally refinished at some point in the pieces life, although it was not done recently. Wear is shown to the finish and includes surface scratches, minor chips, blemishes and repairs. The left back leg of the piece was repaired, there was a crack shown in the leg – this repair does not effect its structure, the leg also isn’t visible. The bottom drawer shows wear on the face veneer, the middle seam could be seen lifting as well as a crack running through the veneer only. A Mild silverloss spot is shown on the original glass. All wear is circled in our photo gallery to reference.
