It’s unclear who exactly made this piece, although every so often the Asian WW2 “Victory Horns” show up! This was most likely an item made for American Soldiers at the end of WW2 in 1945. Manila Bay, Philippines had one of the larger American Army forts and airstrips. This small pair of water buffalo horns were carefully carved, showing a tropical motif on one side, and a scripture on the other, which reads “Victory Souvenir – Manila, Philippines – October, 1945”. The original red textile which wrapped the wood middle is still intact, although its been ripped and torn but is intact with the original nail heads. Because of its shape, the pair of horns do not stand upright. Once on display, it’ll have to be leaned against something, against a wall or with something propped under it to say upright.
