A Camel Bone Repousse Berber Trivet Jewelry Box, Morocco, c. 20th Century. This style of small dowry trunk is refereed to as a Sandok, in Moroccan culture, this would have been filled with jewelry and gifts by a man to gift to his future wife. The silvered brass frame shows heavy patina throughout with a stunning repousse traditional motif throughout. The camel bone panels on each side of the box are nicely aged, each shows a Berber Tribal engraved design, representing eye’s to ward of the “Evil Eye”. The hinged top opens and closes as it should and is lined in an aged red leather.
Condition:
This piece is nicely aged throughout, wear includes surface scratches, chips in the bone, patina shown on the brass as well as leather imperfections.
