Antique Victorian Quartersawn Oak Drop Front Writing Secretary Desk

This is one of the nicer Antique Ladies Writing Desk’s that we’ve obtained throughout the years! This piece is crafted of solid oak, which was quartersawn; Giving this desk an unbelievable grain throughout. The drop front area displays a traditional Victorian carved motif and solid brass escutcheon which has aged nicely. The drop front opens, and leads you to a large amount of writing space, along with a series of different sized cubbies and drawers. Below the drop front area, you’ll find 2 side by side drawers which open and close smoothly. Both of the drawers have dovetailed sides, and are embellished with aged brass pulls. We were very pleased to find that the top brass railing, which surrounds the sides and back of the top surface, is all intact. Many times you’ll find missing pieces, or not railing at all! This is a great way to emphasis a collection or books upon. This piece was professionally refinished at some point in the pieces life, as the finish shines great and the wood beneath the finish is very hydrated and contrasts great. Along with expected scratches and blems, the only thing that we would negative about the piece, is a small missing area in the carved motif, on the front of the drop front (see photos). This desk is extremely sturdy and great to use as an every day piece!
